Bucknell Men's Tennis Handed 5-2 Loss by Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team lost it final regular-season Patriot League contest Tuesday afternoon. The Bison could not hold off Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks took the match, 5-2. Bucknell is now 7-13 overall and 2-3 in the conference and currently sits in fourth place in the Patriot League standings.
The Bison started quickly earning the team doubles point for the fifth consecutive match. Evan Zimmer and Josh Katten won their No. 2 doubles contest 8-1 over Mark Goldberg and Mitchell Peterson. The Bison duo finishes the regular-season conference play undefeated.
Scott Bernstein and Kelly Morque picked up the second win in doubles action as they beat Timur Chernykh and Andrew Krentz by the score of 8-5. The No. 3 duo clinched the team point for the Bison before heading into singles play.
In the singles matches the Bison were unable to control play as they did during doubles and could only collect one win from Gregory Maxson at the No. 6 slot. Maxson beat Daniel Goldblum in a three-set bout by the score of 3-6, 7-6, 10-4.
Two other members of the Bison squad fought in back-and-forth three-set singles matches. Gregg Cohenca lost his No. 1 match to Goldberg, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 and Evan Zimmer was defeated at the No. 2 position by Ben Gilman, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Bucknell will return to the court at home Wednesday against Robert Morris at the Varsity Tennis Courts. The match will be the Bison's final home contest of the year and Senior Day. It is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. and the team will honor captains Cohenca and Maxson before the match.
