Bison Women's Tennis Earns Largest Win of the Season in 7-0 Defeat of Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team earned its second Patriot League victory in its last regular-season conference match over Lafayette, 7-0. The Bison breezed pass the Leopards in singles action and took two of three in doubles play to move to 4-17 overall and 2-3 in the league. With the win Bucknell sits in a tie for third place with Colgate in the Patriot League standings.
The Bison started off strong against Lafayette in doubles play and did not slow down when singles action rolled around.
At the No. 1 doubles position Daria Tuzhikova and Elena Vidrascu won their third straight doubles match of the weekend after beating Caitlin Gordan and Jordyn Spellberg, 8-2.
In the other doubles win for Bucknell, Courtney Casey and Lydia Colvin recovered from yesterday's loss at the No. 2 slot to earn their second win of the weekend. The two had previously won on Friday versus Lehigh and won Sunday morning over Lafayette's Lucy Bass and Liza Blank by the score of 8-4.
The Bison made quick work of singles play with five out of six players winning in straight sets. Four members of the team picked up a second win of the day as Vidrascu beat Spellberg 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, Colvin beat Kusnierz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, Tuzhikova beat Bass 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 and Casey beat Blank 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
Dumitrita Iepuras lost her first set to Gordan but was able to bounce back and earn the victory in the No. 1 singles match, 4-6, 6-2, 10-1.
Freshman Christie Schneider also gathered a win for the Bison in the No. 6 bout. Schneider made quick work of the match beating Gibbons, 6-1, 6-2.
Bucknell returns to action Wednesday for its last home contest of the regular season. The Bison will take on Robert Morris at the Varsity Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
