VESTAL, N.Y. -- Katelyn Miller scored four goals, including the tiebreaking tally with 7:17 to play, and Caroline O'Neill came off the bench to make seven saves, leading the Bucknell women's lacrosse team to a come-from-behind 16-12 victory at Binghamton on Saturday afternoon. Arriana Sajjad recorded another hat trick for the Bison, who secured their fourth victory of the season despite spotting the Bearcats an early 5-1 lead.
Bucknell (4-11) turned the game around late in the first half. Trailing 6-2, the Bison outscored Binghamton (3-9) 5-1 over the final 15:10 of the period. Emily Kookogey started the run by scoring off a feed from Madison Hurwitz, and Sajjad's unassisted tally with 23 seconds left tied the game at 7-apiece at intermission.
The Bison then came out and grabbed the first three goals of the second half, with Sophie Kleinert, Ryan Wenk and Sajjad all scoring in a span of 5:18 to make it a 10-7 game.
Binghamton fought back to tie it up at 11-11 on a Kirsten Stone goal with 16:29 to play. Blair McDonald put the Bison ahead with 9:47 left before Lis Zuern made it 12-12 with 8:57 left.
It was all Bison from there, however, as the visitors pocketed the final four goals of the day. Miller scored on a free-position shot with 7:17 left to give Bucknell the lead for good, and then Miller scratched again with 6:12 left. Molly Ford and McDonald picked up two big insurance goals in the final five minutes.
In addition to her season-high-tying four goals, Miller also had an assist and four draw controls. Adrienne Wendling also corralled four draws. McDonald had her first career multi-goal game, while Ford (2G, 1A) and Hurwitz (1G, 2A) both had three-point games.
Sajjad recorded her second three-goal game of the week, and she became the first Bison to hit the 30-goal mark this season. Sajjad has 32 goals and a team-high 40 points so far.
O'Neill entered the game with Bucknell trailing 6-2 in the first half, and she made seven saves while conceding only six goals in 45 minutes of action.
Kat Hunsberger led Binghamton with four goals. The Bearcats had a narrow 25-23 shot advantage but got only three saves in the game. Bucknell went 16-for-16 on clears and converted three of its four 8-meter attempts.
This was Bucknell's final road game of the season. The Bison host Colgate next Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by the season finale against Howard on Apr. 24.
