LEWISBURG, Pa. - Amanda O'Sullivan scored four goals and Katie Sullivan had four assists to lead Colgate to a 15-8 victory over host Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field. Arriana Sajjad (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) recorded three goals and two assists and Katelyn Miller (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) added three goals and one assist for the Bison, who fell to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in the Patriot League with one game remaining in the season.
On a rainy day in Lewisburg, Colgate (6-10, 4-2) also received two goals apiece from the appropriately named Megan Ark and Alison Flood. Courtney Miller, a 50-goal scorer who was coming off back-to-back seven-goal, nine-point games, drew plenty of attention and was limited to just one goal on a free-position shot. With the victory, the Raiders clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's Patriot League Tournament.
Bucknell had plenty of possession time in this one, as it won 16 of the 25 draws and forced 20 Colgate turnovers. But the Raiders were solid defensively, backed by goalie Jennie Berglin, who made six saves in 43 minutes of action. Colgate narrowly outshot Bucknell 24-21, but the visitors scored on 15 of their 16 shots on frame.
The Bison scored first 2:20 into the game on Miller's goal on a restart just outside the 8-meter arc. The Raiders tallied the next four in a row to take the lead for good. O'Sullivan tied it at the 21:14 mark and Ark put them ahead with a goal off a feed from Sullivan at 19:04.
Bucknell responded coming out of a timeout, pulling within 4-3 on two straight goals by Sajjad. But Colgate pocketed the last four goals of the first half and the first three of the second to take a commanding 11-3 lead. The Raiders' advantage swelled to as many as 10 goals on a couple of occasions in the second half before the Bison scored three times in the final 2:24. One of those came from defender Kerri Althouse (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), who scored her first goal of the season on an 8-meter attempt with 2:07 to play.
Adrienne Wendling (Bethesda, Md./Bullis School) led the Bison with six draw controls, while Sajjad had five. Miller tallied three caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls in addition to her four points.
Bucknell closes out the 2012 season on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Howard at Graham Field.
