LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team will wrap up its Patriot League play over three days starting this Friday at home versus Lehigh (4-12, 1-2 PL) at 3 p.m. The Bison currently enter their three-match weekend with a 2-15 overall and 0-2 Patriot League record. After Friday's bout against Lehigh, Bucknell will head to Army (16-6, 2-0) for Saturday's match at 2 p.m., followed by a short turnaround at Lafayette (4-6, 0-2) on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
In the women's earlier Patriot League matchups, the Bison faced both Navy and Colgate at home. Bucknell fell short in its battle with Navy, 5-2. The Mids overpowered the Bison in the singles play winning five of six matches. Dumitrita Iepuras won the sole singles contest for the Bison at the No. 1 position, 6-3, 6-3. Iepuras started the spring 3-10 in singles and has now won each of her last three matches.
In Bucknell's contest with Colgate the Bison lost by a narrow margin of 4-3. The women's team lost the crucial team doubles point and could not recover in the singles matches, only taking three of six from the Raiders.
Bucknell will face Lehigh in its first match of the weekend with the Mountain Hawks entering the contest with a 1-2 record in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks have played three straight Patriot League foes and picked up a win in their last match versus Colgate, 4-3. Prior to the Colgate win, Lehigh lost to Army, 7-0, and Navy, 6-1. The Mountain Hawks will host their last Patriot League bout against Lafayette on Monday at 3 p.m. Bucknell is 21-23 in the all-time series against Lehigh and claimed last season's victory, 7-0.
After the Bison take on Lehigh, the team will travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on Army in its second matchup of the weekend. For the Black Knights, the matchup against Bucknell will be the regular-season and Patriot League finale. Army has already challenged Colgate and Lehigh this season, winning both matches by the score of 7-0. The Black Knights face Lafayette and Holy Cross in a double header on Friday before Bucknell heads into town. Army took down the Bison 7-0 in last year's regular-season matchup and leads the overall series, 28-4.
Bucknell will then have a short recovery for its third match in three days when it takes on Lafayette Sunday morning. Lafayette is 0-2 in the Patriot League losing both matches to Colgate and Navy, 7-0. The Leopards will participate in contests at West Point, N.Y., against Army and Holy Cross before returning home to take on the Bison. Last year Bucknell beat Lafayette 7-0 in the regular season and 6-0 in the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison lead the Leopards with an all-time record of 21-17-1.
Bucknell will return to action when it faces Robert Morris at home next Wednesday at 3 p.m.
