Bucknell Men's and Women's Tennis Head to Florida for Spring Break Matches

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell Bison tennis teams will head to Orlando, Fla., during Spring Break for a week of matches March 12-16. The women will start their week against Long Island, while the men will face Monmouth in their opening match. From there the women will match up against Seton Hall, NJIT, Quinnipiac, Rhode Island and Chicago State, and the men will take on Siena, Northern Illinois, NJIT, Quinnipiac and Chicago State to complete their week.

MEN'S NOTEBOOK
- The men's team is entering the Spring Break week with a 2-3 record. The men's squad is looking to bounce back after two close 4-3 losses against Niagara and St. Bonaventure. This will be the team's first match since the Feb. 25 loss to the Bonnies.
- Junior Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) is four wins away from moving into a tie for 10th place in the top-10 all-time doubles victories. His current record is 45-26.
- Earlier in the spring season senior captain Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye County Day School) won his 100th career victory as a Bucknell tennis player. He now ranks eighth in all-time victories with a record of 103-93. He is just six wins away from moving into the top-five all-time.
- The Bison men will open their trip against Monmouth. The Hawks are 0-4 on the season with their most recent outing being a 7-0 loss to Army.
- Siena enters the week with a 0-2 record and will have two matches before meeting Bucknell on Tuesday. Siena's Dylan Roberts is 2-0 in singles matches and 0-2 doubles matches during the spring season.
- Northern Illinois started the season 10-4 and is 3-2 in their last five matches. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Bison and the Huskies.
- Thursday's match between the Bucknell and NJIT will be the second in a row the two teams will have faced each other in Orlando. Last year Bucknell ended the match with a 5-2 victory, with returning players Evan Zimmer (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex), Kyle Rosen (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) and Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss School (Conn.)) all claiming victories in their singles matches. The Bison lead the all-time series 3-0.
- Quinnipiac is 1-4 overall on the season. The Bison lead the all-time series between the two schools 5-1.
- Chicago State starts the week with a 0-8 record. The Cougars will have played two matches against NJIT and Liberty before facing the Bison. It will be Bucknell's first meeting with Chicago State.
WOMEN'S NOTEBOOK
- The women's squad is entering the week with a 1-4 record. The Bison are coming off of back-to-back losses against St. Bonaventure and Duquesne. Prior to those matches, Bucknell got its first win of the season over Niagara by the score of 4-3. The opening match against Long Island on Monday will be the first for the women's team in over two weeks.
- Senior captain Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) needs two wins to move into a tie for No. 25 on Bucknell's all-time victories. Her current record is 57-59, which ranks her at No. 26.
- The Bison's first match is against Long Island and the Blackbirds have started their season with a 0-3 record. This will be the second time these two teams have met, the first going to the Bison back in 2004 by the score of 4-3.
- Seton Hall enters the week with a 2-5 record. Its last match was a 6-1 win over Saint Peter's. This will be the fifth meeting between the Bison and the Pirates with Seton Hall leading the series 3-1.
- NJIT enters the Spring Break week with a 9-1 record for the spring season. The Highlanders' last victory came in a 6-1 victory over Lafayette. Sophomore Jana Luste is 8-1 in both singles and doubles matches on the season.
- Quinnipiac started the season with a 2-3 record. The Bobcats will have played matches against Coastal Carolina and Navy before facing the Bison on Thursday. The Bobcats lead the all-time series 4-3 with the last match in 2009 being a 5-2 victory for the Bison.
- Rhode Island started the season 1-4. The Bison and the Rams have played each other just two times previously, with the series being tied at one apiece.
- Chicago State is entering the week at 1-10 on the season. This will be the first match-up between these two teams.
LOOKING AHEAD
Once the Bucknell tennis teams are back from Spring Break, they will both travel to take on Mount St. Mary's on March 20 at 3 p.m. in Emmitsburg, Md.
