LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team (5-8) have a busy road trip ahead of it as it travels to Villanova (3-8) Wednesday at 1 p.m., Georgetown (8-6) Friday at 2 p.m., and finishes its suspended contest Saturday at Mount St. Mary's. The Bison swept the doubles matches and led in two singles contests against The Mount when play began last Tuesday.
The Bison are coming off of a weekend loss to Patriot League foe Navy, 4-3. The men's tennis team won the doubles point over the Midshipmen for the second time since 1953. The men's team has now won the team doubles point in four straight matches going back to Spring Break against Chicago State.
Bucknell will look to win another important team doubles point when it takes on Villanova on Wednesday. When the Bison last faced Villanova in the spring of 2010 the Wildcats swept the doubles matches and Bucknell lost 4-3. Bucknell has the all-time series lead at 9-3.
The men's team will then head to Georgetown to face a Hoyas team that has gone 2-5 in its last five matches. Georgetown sophomore Andrew Dottino is 9-2 in singles and 6-3 in doubles matches.
In the spring of 2010 when Bucknell and Georgetown met the Hoyas won 6-1. Josh Katten won both his doubles match with partner Kelly Morque and his No. 4 singles bout. Georgetown has a 10-3 all-time record over the Bison.
Bucknell wraps up its three contests this week by finishing its suspended match against Mount St. Mary's. The Bison won all three doubles matches and Evan Zimmer and Octavio Canibe lead in the first sets of their singles matches. Gregg Cohenca and Morque will be looking to come back from first-set losses. The bout against The Mount was suspended due to weather and court availability.
After this week's matches the Bison will return to play at home on April 6 against Patriot League opponent Colgate (7-7) at 1 p.m.
