LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell diver Katie Hetherington (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) competed at this past weekend's NCAA Zone "A" Diving Meet, hosted by the University of Buffalo. The freshman finished 41st off the one-meter board and 36th in three-meter competition. The top four finishers earned berths to the NCAA Championships.
The only Bison diver in action at the NCAA qualifying meet, Hetherington scored a 192.75 in the one-meter prelims, while her prelims score off the three-meter was 204.85.
Virginia Tech's Kaylea Arnett captured the one-meter title with a cumulative score of 585.00 in the prelims and final, while UConn's Danielle Cecco earned the three-meter crown with a 643.05 cumulative mark.
The NCAA Zone Diving Meet capped a solid first season for Hetherington, who already owns the school record off both board. She recorded a 264.68 in her first collegiate meet to break the one-meter record, while her 285.05 at November's Bucknell Invitational off the three-meter set that standard. Hetherington posted a second-place finish (three-meter) and a third-place finish (one-meter) at the Patriot League Championships en route to a Second Team All-Patriot League selection.
Overall, in 2011-12, Hetherington captured 13 first-place finishes and swept both boards at five different meets.
