Bucknell's Porcellio and Pontecorvo Named to Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Patriot League Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior Elizabeth Porcellio (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield) and sophomore Kelly Pontecorvo (New Providence, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) were named to the 10-person Academic All-Patriot League Women's Swimming and Diving Team, the league office announced Monday. It is the second consecutive year Porcellio has been cited with the honor.
Porcellio and Pontecorvo, last week, were named Second Team All-Patriot League. It was Porcellio's third straight certificate, while it was Pontecorvo's second.
Porcellio scored 33 points at the Patriot League Championships to rank 26th in the league. She finished third in the 400 IM, eighth in the 200 IM and 11th in the 200 breast and she now has seven career top-10 finishes at the league meet.
Listed in the top 10 in program history in six events, Porcellio is a neuroscience major with a 3.8 grade-point average. She is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and a five-time Dean's List member. A member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Porcellio has spent time volunteering at a local food bank.
Porcellio competed at the ECAC Championships this past weekend and registered three top-11 showings. Her time of 57.34 en route to a seventh-place finish in the 100 fly ranks No. 7 in school history in that event.
The school record holder in the 1,000 free and 1,650 free, Pontecorvo placed second in the 1,650 free, fifth in the 500 free and 22nd in the 200 free at this year's Patriot League Championships. She shows up on the school's top-10 lists in four events.
An undeclared major with a 3.5 cumulative GPA, Pontecorvo was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as a freshman and her fall 2011 GPA exceeded 3.6.
Pontecorvo also competed at this past weekend's ECAC Championships and posted a pair of top-20 finishes.
Now in its second year, the Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Patriot League Team consists of 10 student-athletes. Voting for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Academic All-Patriot League Team is conducted by the league's swimming and diving sports information directors, who cannot vote for their own student-athletes.
