Bucknell Women's Water Polo Completes 2-0 Day with 12-10 Win Over Iona

LEWISBURG, Pa. –Bucknell's defense pitched a shutout in the second quarter and the offense scored four goals in that period to break open a tie game and take a 7-3 lead into halftime en route to a 12-10 victory over Iona in women's water polo action Saturday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. It was the second game of the day in the CWPA/MAAC Crossover for the Bison, who dispatched Siena by a 12-5 margin earlier.
Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) paced the Bucknell offense with three goals and two assists as she moved into 10th place on the program's all-time assists list with 87. Krystle Morgan (Rowland Heights, Calif./Rosary) matched Kennan with a season-high three goals, while Julianne Valdes (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) chipped in four points on a pair of goals and two assists. Valdes, earlier in the day against the Saints, became the third current Bison player to cross the career 100-point plateau.
Valdes and Morgan also drew a combined seven ejections. Bucknell (5-6), which is in the midst of its second winning streak this season, was 4-for-8 on six-on-five chances and held Iona without a goal on two of its five man-up opportunities.
The Bison led Iona by an 11-7 margin after three quarters of play.
Rena Heim (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) made the start in cage and stopped a season-high 13 shots.
Bucknell, which evened its all-time record against Iona at 5-5, will wrap up play at the CWPA/MAAC Crossover on Sunday with games against Villanova (10:30 a.m.) and Wagner (3:15 p.m.).
