Bison Men's Tennis Returns to Winning Form Against Hofstra, 6-1

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – After a tough loss last weekend, the Bucknell men's tennis team (2-1) returned to their winning ways against Hofstra (0-1) in a 6-1 victory. The Bison dominated from the start, collecting wins in all three doubles matches over the Pride. The men's team now has a 9-2 record all-time against Hofstra.
Once Bucknell had garnered the lead through excellent doubles play from Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and partner Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./ Rye), the remaining Bison doubles partners followed suit and swept the final two matches giving the team a valuable early point.
The Bison continued to roll as Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) won his singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. In his earlier triumph with doubles partner Evan Zimmer (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex), Cohenca now has reached the century mark in career wins at Bucknell. The two victories against Hofstra gave Cohenca career wins Nos.100 and 101.
Sophomore Kyle Rosen (Armonk, N.Y./Bryam Hills) had an exceptional day as well. Rosen won his doubles match with partner Scott Bernstein (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) 8-4, and then in the No. 6 singles match of the day defeated Hofstra's Laurent Octobre in decisive fashion 6-2, 6-0.
The men's team will be back in action against Niagara at 5 p.m. on Feb. 24 and St. Bonaventure at 3 p.m. on Feb. 25. Both matches will be played in Olean, N.Y., at the St. Bonaventure Indoor Tennis Courts.
