Bucknell Women's Water Polo Concludes First Day of Bison Invite with 8-7 Loss to Brown

| BUY PHOTOS | Bison Invitational Schedule/ResultsLEWISBURG, Pa. -Prior to Saturday night's CWPA contest against Brown in Kinney Natatorium, the Bucknell women's water polo program honored its five seniors. It was senior Amanda Skonezney who led the Bison with a game-high three goals, but the Bears used a four-goal second quarter to overcome an early deficit and defeat Bucknell by an 8-7 margin.
The Bison, who defeated Siena 13-7 earlier in the day, led 2-1 after one period of play, but Brown scored four goals in the first four minutes of the second quarter and never relinquished the lead. The Bears led by as many as three scores in the second half.
Taylor Barnett, who tallied a team-high four goals earlier in the day against the Saints, joined Skonezney with a multi-goal outing with two scores, while Julianne Valdes dished out three assists, the most by a Bison in 2012.
After recording a season-high 22 steals vs. Siena, Bucknell (3-3, 0-1 CWPA Southern Division) managed just six opposite Brown (3-1), which posted a 20-6 win over Gannon on Saturday afternoon.
Making her fourth consecutive start in cage, Brittany Connell stopped a career-high 14 shots. She crossed the 200-save plateau for her career and now has 209 in her four years as a Bison.
Bucknell was just 5-for-12 in six-on-five chances. The Bison did stop Brown on four of its eight six-on-fives.
Bucknell will continue play at the Bison Invitational on Sunday. The Bison will take on Wagner (9:30 a.m.) and No. 16 Hartwick (6:30) to wrap up the two-day event.
