Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Remains Third at Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Freshman Stephanie Koziol finished second in her first career Patriot League Championships race and junior Elizabeth Porcellio posted her seventh career top-eight finish as Bucknell had two of the top three finishers in the 400-yard individual medley Friday on the second day of the Patriot League Championships at Navy's Lejeune Hall. The Bison are listed third in the team standings with 363 points, trailing only the host Mids (610 points) and defending champion Colgate (474).

Bucknell had 14 scorers in the five individual swimming events contested Friday and six of them came in the 400 IM, which was led by Koziol and Porcellio. Koziol and Porcellio both trimmed nearly two seconds off their prelim times to record new program top-10 marks. Koziol now ranks third in program history (4:25.17), while Porcellio is fourth (4:25.63). Porcellio finished nearly three seconds ahead of fourth-place Colleen Randolph from Navy.

Melissa Besman (7th), Anna Griest (12th), Kristen Purdy (14th) and Meg Lattimer (16th) rounded out the list of Bison scorers in the 400 IM.

Bucknell's best finishers in the other individual swimming events were Lauren Perry (200 free), Emily Norton (100 breast) and Jennifer Brennan (100 back), who each finished seventh and posted new top-five times in program history. Perry's 1:52.02 in the 200 free places her second on that list, while Brennan is now fourth in the 100 back and Norton fifth in the 100 breast.

Kaitlyn Sweeney was the top finisher for the Bison in the 100 fly, touching the wall eighth. Alex Panzarino placed ninth in the event, but actually out-swam Sweeney by .05 seconds to post the No. 7 time in program history. Sweeney's prelim time of 57.40 put her eighth on that list.

The Bison 200 medley relay and 800 free relay quartets also posted top-10 times in program history. The 200 medley relay was No. 10, while the 800 free relay of Porcellio, Perry, Kelly Pontecorvo and Koziol finished in 7:36.24 to rank No. 2 in school annals.

Also on Friday, the prelims of the one-meter diving competition were contested and the Bison had three of the top four finishers. Freshman Katie Hetherington was first, while classmates Tori Molchany and Tara Boyle were second and fourth, respectively. The finals will be contested on Saturday as Bucknell looks for its first-ever Patriot League Championships diving gold medal.

The Bison youth shined through once again on Friday as a freshman was Bucknell's top finisher in three events.

The three-day Patriot League Championships will wrap up Saturday. Prelims begin at 10:30 a.m., while the finals are slated for 6 p.m.
