LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's track and field's Tom Barr (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College HS) added to his already impressive collection of honors when he was named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week for the sixth time this season on Monday. The senior won the shot put and took second in the weight throw at last weekend's Bucknell Winter Classic.
Barr had already set the Patriot League record for most single-season field honors when he earned his fifth last week. The senior thrower now has four consecutive Field Athlete of the Week awards, tying the record held by former Bison Tyler Hoffman in 2006-07. Additionally, Barr's six career citations, all of which came this winter, puts him one behind that record also held by Hoffman. Hoffman claimed seven from 2003-07.
On Saturday, Barr won the shot put for the fifth time this season with a mark of 53 feet, 7 ¾ inches. He also took second in the weight throw, finishing with a distance of 57-11. Barr has placed in the top three in the weight throw in all six of his meets this season. He has also set IC4A Championship-qualifying marks in both events each time he placed this winter.
Barr and the rest of the Bison will compete for a Patriot League title this weekend when Bucknell hosts the conference championship meet Feb. 17-19 at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Barr is the defending indoor champion in the shot put. He also took fourth in the weight throw at last year's championship meet, helping the Bison to a third-place finish as a team.
