Bison Men's Tennis Fall Short in 7-0 Loss to Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis team (1-1) traveled to Penn State (6-2) seeking a 2-0 start to their season but could not come home with a win after losing 7-0 to the Nittany Lions. The Bison played in several close doubles matches, winning one, but their efforts could not overcome a powerful Penn State team.
Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and Evan Zimmer (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex) won their doubles match placing Cohenca in the top-10 all-time victories for men's tennis at Bucknell. The Bison duo took on Jason Lee and Russell Bader and won a back-and-forth match 9-8.
Zimmer's single match did not fare well as he took on Nittany Lion Taylor Cohen and retired early in the first set giving Penn State the first singles point of the day.
Freshman Octavio Canibe (Spring, Texas/The John Cooper School) had the large task of taking on Penn State freshman Tomas Hanzlik who currently holds the No. 80 spot in the ITA singles rankings. Canibe managed to take two games from the ranked Hanzlik in the first set but came up empty in the second set losing the match 6-2, 6-0.
Junior Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) took on C.J Griffin in the No. 6 singles bout and managed some excellent points against his opponent but eventually was defeated 6-1, 6-3. Morque is now 1-1 in singles matches this season.
The men's tennis team returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon when they take on Hofstra University in Quakertown, Pa.
