LEWISBURG, Pa. --Earlier this week senior Brendan Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J./Pingry School) became the first Bucknell men's soccer student-athlete in nearly 25 years to earn National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region honors four years in a row. On Friday Burgdorf achieved another milestone on the academic side, becoming the first Bison to garner NSCAA Scholar All-America honors twice.
Burgdorf, who was an NSCAA First Team Scholar All-American last season, earned Second Team honors this year. He is one of seven repeat picks among the 22 players on the first and second teams.
All student-athletes named to the 2012 Scholar All-America Teams will be recognized Jan. 19 at the All-America Luncheon, held during the 2013 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis.
Burgdorf had another outstanding season both on and off the field this fall. He was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection after leading the Bison in scoring with 11 points on three goals and five assists. The 2010 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. Burgdorf became a member of the 20-goal club earlier this season, and he will graduate ranked in the top 10 on Bucknell's career charts in points (T-10th with 55) and assists (T-8th with 15).
A physics major at Bucknell, Burgdorf was also selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team and the Patriot League Men's Soccer All-Academic Team. He represents the men's soccer team in the Bucknell Bison Leadership Academy and has been an annual member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
In addition to Burgdorf's two selections, the Bison men's soccer program has had two other NSCAA Scholar All-Americans. Adam Edwards earned the honor in 2004 and Patrick Selwood in 2009.
