LEWISBURG, Pa. - Christian Lupica set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles and recorded the second-best time in program history in the 300 to highlight the Bison Opener for the Bucknell men's track and field team Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. A total of five program top-10 marks were posted during the season-opening meet.
Lupica finished third in the 60 hurdles, but his time of 8.05 seconds edged out Robert Arent's previous school record by .02 seconds. Lupica had been second on the list (8.11). Lupica won the 300 in a time of 35.19, putting him No. 2 on that list behind only Kerry Boyle. Kevin Tapper was in second place behind Lupica on Saturday. Tapper knocked .23 seconds off his previous best and is now sixth on the all-time ledger.
In addition to his solid performance in the 300, Tapper finished fourth in the long jump.
Junior Ray Holmes posted the No. 3 mark in school history in the triple jump. He won the event with a leap of 48 feet, 3 ¾ inches, beating out his previous best by more than a foot. Only three other people in program annals have jumped more than 48 feet.
Sophomore Brian Monahan also etched his named into the record books in the shot put. His toss of 51 feet placed him No. 9 in school history and third in the event on Saturday.
John Dugan (5,000), John Westwood (mile) and Leonard Joseph (weight throw) rounded out Bucknell's list of five winners in the meet.
The Bison will return to action Jan. 5 when they host the Bucknell Mini Meet.
