LEWISBURG, Pa. - Christian Lupica set a school record in the 300-meter dash, Kevin Tapper recorded an IC4A-qualifying time in the 200 and the Bison men's track and field team posted nine first place finishes in the 15 events that were contested at the Bucknell Mini Meet Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Already the school record-holder in the 60 hurdles and the 200, Lupica added the 300 to that list as he crossed the line in 34.77 seconds, .42 faster than his personal-best time posted at last month's Bison Opener and .09 faster than Kerry Boyle's seven-year-old standard. Lupica was nearly a full second faster than his closest competitor. Teammate Kevin Keller won his section in 35.79, the third-fastest time in the field and the No. 7 time in program history.
Lupica also tied for first in the 60 in 7.03. Just behind him and fellow winner Sam Keliojor (Gwyned-Mercy) was Bucknell junior Patryk Najbar, who timed in with a personal-best 7.05.
Tapper, a sophomore, won the 200 in 22.60 as he registered one of just three IC4A-qualifying times in running events during the meet, and the only one by a Bison.
Grant Reynolds (mile), Jacob Eaton Hall (500), John Westwood (1,000) and Michael McGowan (3,000) rounded out the list of Bison winners on the track. Eaton Hall (500) and Westwood (1,000) both led Bucknell sweeps of the top four spots in their events, while McGowanm, Andrew Kuchta and Eric Balaban finished 1-2-3 in the 3,000.
Leonard Joseph won the weight throw by more than nine feet with an IC4A mark of 61-1 ¼, and Scott Weismiller tied for first in the pole vault for Bucknell's field victories on Saturday.
Keller followed his strong performance in the 300 with a second-place showing in the long jump, while Ray Holmes took second in the triple jump with an IC4A-qualifying mark behind only former Bison All-Patriot Leaguer Kyle Anthony, who was competing unattached in the meet.
The Bucknell Mini Meet featured competitors from Bucknell, Hagerstown, Mount St. Mary's, Gwyned-Mercy and Bloomsburg, in addition to a handful of unattached athletes.
Bucknell, which had not competed since Dec. 1, will take two weeks off before hosting the Gulden Invitational Jan. 19.
