LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams were originally supposed to be idle this weekend, but a dual meet against Patriot League foe Lafayette was added to the schedule after the Leopards were unable to compete in last weekend's competition in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Lafayette will visit Kinney Natatorium to take on the Bison Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Leopards were originally supposed to host a quad meet with Bucknell, American and Navy last Saturday, but had to back out of hosting duties due to power outages following Sandy. The Bison, Eagles and Mids ended up facing each other at American's Reeves Pool with both Bucknell squads posted 1-1 records against their conference foes.
Bucknell's men's squad enters the weekend with a 2-2 record this year. The Bison have defeated Fordham and American, but lost to Connecticut and Navy. Bucknell is 48-4 all-time against Lafayette and has not lost to the Leopards since the 1993-94 campaign. The Bison came out on top of last year's meet by a 226-72 score.
The Bucknell women are 1-3 this year with a win over American and losses to Fordham, Connecticut and Navy. The Bison are 30-2-2 all-time against Lafayette, have won five in a row in the series and have not lost to the Leopards since the 1978-79 season. Bucknell defeated Lafayette by a 242-57 margin a year ago.
This weekend's competition will be the first true scored dual meet of the season for both Bison squads. Both teams faced UMBC in an unscored meet to start the season and then competed in a pair of double duals.
Bucknell will be home again next weekend when it hosts the Bucknell Invitational Nov. 16-18 in Kinney Natatorium. Trials each day will begin at 10 a.m., while each day's finals will commence at 6 p.m.
