Going into the season, we were all extremely excited about the new changes on the team. We got a record incoming 11 new freshman, as well as two new additions to the coaching staff. The new mixture would certainly bring in a new dynamic, which provided us with a catalyst for a brighter beginning. Of course, this would not be without challenge; we felt strongly that our team would without a doubt come in and take them head on. Coming into this season after losing a very decorated senior class will allow us to take advantage of opportunities that will ultimately bring this program to the next level, and not simply fill the shoes we have been given. We hope that as captains we will be able to provide a galvanic effect on morale.
We believe that one of our strengths this year is our depth, and from top to bottom, the men's team has shown this character. This has been evident beginning our first practice, through our first meet. Some of the practices this year have been the hardest that any of us can remember. The difficulty of this training, however, has allowed each individual of the team to step up and get faster. Evidence of this progress came in the form of our first swim meet. The overall energy in the meet and the effort put forth were extremely high. Despite traveling and competing in a less than ideal pool, the team was able to perform to their best ability. We are on the path to excel in many of the goals that we have set and will continue to strive for greater heights.
We have some tough competitors in our schedule this year. Nevertheless, individuals in every class have proven that they care about the future success of this team and are willing to put in the necessary work. Most importantly, the men's team is showing the beginning of a drive that we want to carry though for the rest of the season. We believe that the attitude and intensity of the first six weeks will become a culture that will stick with this team throughout this season and in years to come. We have accomplished a lot thus far, but there is much to be done by February. There is no substitute for hard work, and we would not have it any other way.
