LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell swimming and diving teams will compete for the final time this semester this Saturday when they host Binghamton in a dual meet at Kinney Natatorium. Start time for the meet is 1 p.m.
It will be the first-ever dual meet between Bucknell and Binghamton, which became a Division I program in 2001-02.
Both Bison squads were idle last weekend, but are coming off strong showings at the Bucknell Invitational two weeks ago. The men (3-2, 2-1 Patriot League) finished in third place at the three-day event, two spots ahead of Binghamton in the final standings. Mike Nicholson (200 breast, 400 IM) and Trevor Reitz (100 free) registered first-place finishes for the Bison, while Will Rappaport (400 IM) and Patrick Alvermann (three-meter diving) posted new program top-10 marks.
Bucknell's men won their last dual meet (Nov. 10), downing Patriot League foe Lafayette by a 186-112 score.
The Bison women (2-3, 2-1 Patriot League) won the Bucknell Invitational, edging second-place Delaware by a slim 2.5 points. Binghamton was sixth in the seven-team field. Kelly Pontecorvo (1,650 free), Lauren Perry (200 free) and Elizabeth Porcellio (200 IM, 400 IM) posted individual victories for Bucknell, while six different swimmers combined to register seven new program top-10 marks, including school records by Pontecorvo (1,000 free) and Perry (200 free). Additionally, four relays worked their way into the school record books.
Prior to the Bucknell Invitational, the Bison defeated league opponent Lafayette by a 194.5-103.5 margin.
Binghamton's men enter Saturday's meet with an 0-3 record on the season, while the Bearcat women are 1-2. Both squads lost to Boston University and Massachusetts, while the women defeated Drexel. The men lost a close meet to the Dragons, falling by just seven points (153-146).
Bucknell's next competition after Saturday's dual is more than a month away. The Bison will next be in action Jan. 5 at Columbia. That dual will mark the final road event for Bucknell during the 2012-13 regular season.
