LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Katie Hetherington (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) was named the Patriot League Female Diver of the Week on Monday, winning the award for the second time this season and sixth time in her two-year career. She helped the Bison finish first in the team standings - 2.5 points ahead of second-place Delaware - at the Bucknell Invitational this past weekend.
Hetherington was Bucknell's top finisher off both boards as she placed third off the one-meter and was runner-up off the three-meter. Her finals score of 238.25 off the one-meter board was her second-highest of the season, while her finals tally of 255.15 off the three-meter marked her highest this year and the sixth-best of her career.
A Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2012, Hetherington was third off both boards in the prelims.
Thanks to her Bucknell Invitational performance, Hetherington now has eight top-three showings in 10 diving competitions in 2012-13. She has finished in first place five times.
Hetherington put together an outstanding freshman season in 2011-12 that saw her finish second (three-meter) and third (one-meter) at last year's Patriot League Championships. She also competed at the NCAA Zone Diving Meet and was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Hetherington and her Bison teammates will be back in action Dec. 1 when they host a dual meet against Binghamton at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell is 2-3 overall and 2-1 against Patriot League competition this season.
