LEWISBURG, Pa. --The Bucknell men's and women's soccer teams have both earned their annual spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award lists. A total of 728 college teams (223 men, 503 women) earned awards by posting a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2011-12 academic year. Bucknell was one of 153 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
The Bucknell women's team posted a 3.35 team GPA, while the Bison men recorded a 3.30 combined GPA. The women's squad has now been honored in all 16 years the award has been given, while the men's team has been recognized in 15 of the last 16 years.
Earlier this fall, senior Brendan Burgdorf and junior Joe Meyer from the Bucknell men's team both earned Capital One Academic All-District honors as well as spots on the Patriot League All-Academic Team. From the women's squad, seniors Meghan Fitzpatrick and Sandita McDermott were named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team, while Fitzpatrick was picked for the Academic All-District squad.
In the coming weeks the NSCAA will announce its Scholar All-America teams.
