LEWISBURG, Pa. - Facing Lafayette one week later than originally scheduled, the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team defeated the Leopards 194.5-103.5 Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. Nine different Bison posted at least one victory in the meet as Bucknell claimed first in 14 of 16 events.
Ashley Henderson (100 breast, 200 back), Lauren Perry (100 free, 100 fly) and Katie Hetherington (one-meter diving, three-meter diving) were the three double winners for Bucknell, which improved to 2-3 on the season, including 2-1 against Patriot League competition.
Henderson claimed first in the 100 breast, finishing one spot ahead of teammate Emily Norton, while her time of 2 minutes, 7.76 seconds in the 200 back was 2.58 seconds ahead of runner-up teammate Kristen Purdy.
Perry finished 1-2 with Elizabeth Porcellio in both the 100 free and 100 fly, although they both swam exhibition in the 100 fly due to the large lead Bucknell had in the team score at that point in the meet.
Bison finished first, second, third, fourth and fifth in both diving competitions with Hetherington taking first off both boards. Already the school record-holder in both events, Hetherington was followed by Tori Molchany (second) and Tara Boyle (third) off the one-meter and Boyle (second) and Molchany (third) off the three-meter.
Melissa Besman (1,000 free), Stephanie Koziol (200 free), Purdy (100 fly by 4.08 seconds), Norton (200 breast) and Kelly Pontecorvo (500 free) also collected wins for Bucknell. Pontecorvo also had a second-place showing in the 200 free, one spot behind Koziol.
The Bison also won both relays. The foursome of Brennan, Morgan Oxley, Purdy and Kaitlyn Utkewicz claimed the 200 medley relay, while Perry, Utkewicz, Emily Wright and Porcellio teamed up to touch the wall first in the 400 free relay to close the meet.
Bucknell will be back home next weekend when it hosts the Bucknell Invitational Nov. 16-18 at Kinney Natatorium. Prelims each day begin at 10 a.m., while finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. each of the three days.
