LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's soccer seniors Sandita McDermott (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Red Hook) and Kayla Yee (Centennial, Colo./Heritage) earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors on Thursday. McDermott, one of the top goalkeepers in program history, was recognized for the second year in a row, while Yee, a midfielder, earned her first all-league citation.
McDermott had a fantastic senior year, when she became the seventh goalkeeper in program history to win 10 games in a season. She leads the Patriot League in shutouts (7) and saves (107), ranks second in save percentage (.817) and third in goals-against average (1.28). Her GAA is fourth-best on Bucknell's all-time single-season list. She recorded 10 or more saves in a game four times, with a high of 12 against Lehigh, 11 each against Penn State and Navy and 10 at Saint Francis (Pa.).
McDermott tied a league record this season by earning four Brine Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week citations. She joins Kathryn Sutton as the only Bucknell goalkeepers ever to earn multiple All-Patriot League citations.
On Bucknell's career charts, McDermott ranks second in shutouts (14), second in goals-against average (1.39), third in save percentage (.807), fourth in wins (20) and fifth in total saves (293).
Yee has been a starting central midfielder since day one at Bucknell. She has battled through some injuries throughout her career, but after an outstanding senior campaign she was recognized by the league's head coaches as an all-conference player.
Yee logged two goals and three assists this season, giving her a career-high seven points. She scored the game-winning goal against Mount St. Mary's and added another against Canisius. Yee also had assists against Robert Morris, Saint Bonaventure and CSU Bakersfield, and Bucknell was 5-0 in games in which she recorded a point.
Yee will graduate with 18 career points on six goals and six assists. Beyond the statistics, she was a constant presence in the middle of the field for the Bison, winning 50-50 balls and linking effectively with teammates.
In addition to their play on the field, McDermott and Yee are also academic standouts. McDermott was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Thursday, and Yee is a perennial Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member majoring in civil engineering.
The Bucknell women's soccer team finished the 2012 season with a 10-9 record. It was the sixth time in the last eight years the Bison posted a winning record with at least 10 wins.
