LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey again put up a strong performance as the second wave of Patriot League honors was released on Thursday. Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) was selected as the Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team along with Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison).
All three Bison were also recognized as All-Patriot League performers this morning with Siegrist earning a First Team nod and Perrine and Misko being named to the Second Team. Siegrist is now the seventh Bison to be named the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in field hockey and the first since Christine Weiss in 2010.
Siegrist, who leads Bucknell in points (22) and goals (8) on the field, has a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average as a management major. The senior captain has now been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in all three years of the honor's existence. She is also a three-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad and has been named to the Bucknell Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every semester of her career.
Siegrist's accolades, both on and off the field, extend past the fall. A javelin thrower with the Bucknell track and field team, she has twice qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships. Last spring, Siegrist earned recognition as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team selection.
With the Patriot League Tournament beginning tomorrow, Siegrist will look to advance her team through the postseason and improve her standing on the Bucknell record lists. With 16 career assists, she ranks eighth all-time in program history.
Perrine and Misko both earn their first selections to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Perrine boasts a 3.77 GPA as an accounting major, an accomplishment that has also earned her two Patriot League Academic Honor Roll citations and a spot on the Bucknell Dean's List every semester. She has twice been named to the NFHCA Academic Squad and helped the Bison to NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team accolades.
On the field, Perrine has started all 18 goals in game for Bucknell. The junior has a 9-9 record and two shutouts on the year. Her .726 save percentage and 1.82 goals allowed average also rate her among the best in the Patriot League. Perrine is also looking to move up the record lists at Bucknell before the season comes to a close. She enters the weekend ranked sixth in single-season wins, ninth in career wins (17) and 10th in career saves (192) and shutouts (4).
Misko is no stranger to conference honors having also been named to an All-Patriot League team for her on-the-field success in each of her first three seasons with the Bison. Academically, Misko carries a 3.66 GPA while majoring in management. Like her teammates, she has been named to the Bucknell Dean's List in each of her four semesters to date and has twice been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and NFHCA Academic Squad.
On the field, Misko is second on the team in points (17) and third in goals (6) this season. The junior also has two game-winning goals this fall, tying for the team lead.
The Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The field hockey team has 11 student-athletes to equal the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or a key reserve. Award winners are determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors who cannot vote for their own student-athletes.
Bucknell will begin its postseason push tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. when it takes on American in Easton, Pa. The winner of the Patriot League Tournament semifinal will advance to Saturday's championship game, which is now set for 3 p.m.
