Patriot League Tournament Preview
LEWISBURG, Pa. – With postseason play just around the corner, Bucknell field hockey placed five student-athletes on the All-Patriot League Teams, it was announced on Thursday. Kelsey Mucelli (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown Area) was a unanimous first team selection and Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) joined her younger teammate on the first team. Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), Vickie Resh (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg Area) and Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) were also voted to the second team.
Four of Bucknell's five all-league selections are repeat honorees. Siegrist was named to the second team in 2010, while Perrine and Resh were also second team selections last season. Misko is now a three-time selection having been named to the second team as a freshman, the same season she was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, and to the first team last fall.
Mucelli earned her first citation after finishing second on the team in assists this season. The sophomore totaled nine on the year, ranking her 10th at Bucknell on the single-season list. She also tied the single-game record against Temple when she registered three assists against the Owls. A starter in all 18 games this fall, Mucelli has been a vital part of the Bison midfield and penalty corner unit.
Mucelli was one of seven players to be named to the 11-person All-Patriot League Team unanimously. She was also just one of four sophomores on the squad.
Known as one of the top defenders in the league, Siegrist finished with two defensive saves and was part of a Bison backfield that limited opponents to 1.89 goals per game this season. The senior captain also broke out offensively in her final campaign. She currently leads Bucknell in goals (8) and points (22) and ranks fourth in assists (6) with each of those totals being a personal career best.
Like Mucelli, Siegrist has done much of her damage on the penalty corner unit. Having had a hand in Bucknell's penalty corners throughout her career, Siegrist will graduate among the program's top 10 in assists. She enters the 2012 postseason ranked eighth all-time with 16 helpers.
Perrine and Resh both earn a second consecutive nod to the second team. Perrine has marked herself as one of the top goalkeepers in the league with her 9-9 record and 1.82 goals against average this fall. She also has a .726 save percentage to go along with two shutouts. The junior, who has started all 18 games in goal for the Bison and has played 1232:03 over the course of the season, was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week three times this year, bringing her career total to five.
After nearly three full years in the Orange & Blue, Perrine has inked her name to more than one Bucknell record list. She is currently ninth in career wins (17) and 10th in career saves (192) and shutouts (4). Her nine victories this year also ties her for sixth on the single-season record list.
Resh saw her time in the Bison midfield slightly reduced this fall but only because the junior traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico as part of Team USA to compete in the Junior Pan American Games. Resh helped the Americans qualify for a berth in the 2013 World Cup, then returned to Lewisburg where she solidified an already strong backfield unit. She also finished her regular season with the Bison with her second career goal.
Misko claims her third all-league honor after maintaining her spot among Bucknell's most potent offensive players. The junior is second on the team with 17 points on six goals and five assists. She also has two game-winning goals, including one in the Bison's 7-0 rout of Colgate last month.
Misko is the 10th Bison to collect at least three all-league citations in her career. Morgan Kauffman was the most recent addition prior to Misko, having claimed second-team accolades from 2008-10. The only Bison to be named All-Patriot League four times are Amanda Faust and Bucknell Athletics Hall of Famer Almira Baldwin.
Bucknell's five selections this season is tied for the most in team history. The Bison also have five players recognized in 1998, 2010 and 2011.
All-League teams and major awards are voted on by each school's head coach who cannot vote for their own players.
No. 3 Bucknell will continue its season on Friday when it takes on No. 4 American in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals in Easton, Pa. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will advance to the championship match to take on the winner of No. 1 Lafayette vs. No. 4 Colgate at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
