APALACHIN, N.Y. -- Dan Bernard continued his outstanding fall season with a second straight 1-over-par 73, helping the Bucknell men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Binghamton Invitational on Monday. Bernard finished in a tie for fifth-place individually, his fourth top-10 and third top-5 performance in four events this season.
Bucknell began the day in second place, four shots behind Laval. But while the Canadian squad posted a final-round 295 to pull away, the Bison had to count an 81 among its four scores and finished with a 305 to slip back to fourth place.
Laval's 36-hole total of 586 was 12 strokes better than Saint Peter's and Hofstra, while Bucknell ended up fourth with a 600 total. Host Binghamton finished a shot behind the Bison in fifth place at 601. Colgate was the only other Patriot League squad in the 16-team field. The Raiders finished 13th at 629.
Bernard's 2-over 146 put him six shots behind Laval's Ujo Coussard, who followed up Sunday's 4-under 68 with an even-par 72. Binghamton's Bryce Edmister and Seton Hall's Cory Wilson finished at even par for the tournament.
Schuyler Stitzer and Luke Edelman also had solid tournaments for the Bison. Stitzer shot 73-75 and finished T-12th, while Edelman was T-22nd with rounds of 74-76. Thomas Walter started strong with a 75 before shooting 81 on Monday, while Peter Scialabba also posted an 81 in the final round.
Bucknell will host an alumni tournament on Saturday at the Bucknell Golf Club, then the Bison finish the fall season at the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 20-21.
