Balanced Bucknell Field Hockey Blanks Holy Cross 4-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - For the fourth consecutive season, Bucknell field hockey held Holy Cross scoreless, defeating the Crusaders 4-0 in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday afternoon. Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) tallied three points on one goal and one assist, and Jeremy Cook moved into a tie for the second-most coaching victories in program history as the Bison improved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League this season.
Bucknell recorded four shutouts in the series' first 25 meetings with Holy Cross (2-9, 1-1 PL) and that total doubled today. The Bison have outscored the Crusaders 16-0 since 2009. Saturday's win was just the third in Worcester since the series began in 1985.
Guaranteeing today's success was a balanced attack as four different Bison netted goals. None of those goals came until the second half, but when the scoring broke open, it came in a hurry. Leigh Hillman (Dallas, Pa./Lake Lehman) registered her fifth goal of the season one minute after play resumed. Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) then made it a 2-0 game 90 seconds later.
Siegrist earned the assist on Hillman's goal, while Maggie Murphy (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) collected an assist on Misko's. It was the first of Murphy's two assists on the day as she also inserted the ball for an assist on a penalty corner that resulted in Siegrist's goal. Kelsey Muccelli (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown Area) also had an assist on the play.
Siegrist now has 15 career assists, giving her sole possession of eighth in program history. Her eight goals this season leads the team.
Wrapping up the scoring for Bucknell was Amie Pritchard (Rumson, Conn./Kent School (Conn.)), again off a penalty corner with 10:03 left in the game.
Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), who is now 7-6 in goal this fall, earned her second shutout of the season after needing to make a save on the Crusaders' only shot of the game. The junior now has four shutouts in her career, tying her with Liz Jordan for 10th on the program record lists. Perrine's victory was also the 15th of her career, equaling Sue Gray for 10th as well.
In addition to this being Bucknell's fourth consecutive shutout over Holy Cross, the Bison have also blanked each of their Patriot League foes this fall. Bucknell also defeated Colgate 7-0 on Sept. 29.
Kat Matchett (2-9) took the loss in goal for Holy Cross after making seven saves and allowing all four goals. Bucknell had the shooting advantage 21-1, with 12 of the Bison's attempts making it on goal. Bucknell also had a 10-0 edge in penalty corners.
Now in his fifth season at Bucknell's helm, Cook has a coaching record of 45-45. His wins total ties him with Martha Ludwig for second all-time at Bucknell. He has a way to go until he catches the program leader, however, as Heather Lewis currently holds the record with 128 victories during her 16-year tenure with the Bison.
Bucknell will stay in Massachusetts for its next contest, a 2 p.m. bout tomorrow with Harvard in Cambridge. The Bison won the only other meeting with the Crimson, 3-0 in 2010.
