LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bison men's tennis wrapped up the Bucknell Invitational with two titles on Tuesday. Octavio Canibe and Kelly Morque defeated teammates Josh Katten and Evan Zimmer in doubles, while Chris Tortora was a winner over fellow Bison Jonathan DeFrancesch in singles at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
With each of the tournament's three title matches being contested between teammates, the finals were delayed and played out at campus sites. The delay set up two tight bouts between Bison. Playing together in doubles for the first time in their careers, Canibe and Morque took a 9-8 (8) decision over Katten and Zimmer.
Morque is now tied for ninth in program history in doubles wins with a 55-42 career record. It was the senior's second tournament championship this fall in doubles after also winning the Bison Quad with Aidan Lynch in early September.
Tortora won his first singles title of the year, and the second of his career, after beating DeFrancesch in a super tiebreak. DeFrancesch took the opening set 6-1, but Tortora battled back for the title by winning 6-4, 10-6 down the stretch.
Bucknell will return to action Oct. 12-14 at the Lehigh Invitational at Bethlehem, Pa.
