LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey wrapped up its regular-season schedule at American last weekend and freshman Kiersten Sydnor (Shippensburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) capped off play with her fourth Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor, it was announced on Monday. Sydnor tallied a goal on Saturday, giving the Bison their lone goal against the Eagles.
Sydnor began her freshman campaign with back-to-back Rookie of the Week citations early this fall. With her fourth award on Monday, she finishes the year with more than any other rookie in the league this year and just one shy of the Patriot League record. As a team, Bucknell also has won seven of a possible 10 Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors this season as Kayla Sullivan also had two and Abby Watson added one last week.
To earn her fourth honor, Sydnor broke up American's shutout bid last weekend with a goal midway through the second half. The goal, which came on a penalty corner, ended her 10-game scoreless streak. Sydnor now has five goals on the year, which leads all Bison freshmen.
Bucknell fell 2-1 to American on Saturday, but the teams will have a rematch this coming Saturday in the Patriot League Tournament semifinal. The Bison and the Eagles will square off at 2:30 p.m. in Easton, Pa., on Nov. 2. The All-Patriot League Teams for field hockey will also be announced tomorrow in the lead-up to the postseason.
