LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's swimming and diving's Mike Nicholson (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week on Monday after totaling three top-two finishes at this past weekend's tri-meet with host UConn and Fordham. The only double winner for the Bison, Nicholson won the 200-yard butterfly and 200 individual medley while also placing second overall in the 100 fly.
Nicholson's two victories came by a total of 4.39 seconds as he captured the 200 fly (1:52.35) by 2.47 seconds and the 200 IM (1:54.39) by 1.92. In the 200 fly Nicholson was 1.08 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
A seven-time Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week during his three-year career, Nicholson also swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay. The Bison quartet placed fourth in the race with Nicholson swimming his butterfly portion in 23.23.
Nicholson and the Bison split with UConn and Fordham in the first scored meet of the year for Bucknell. The Bison defeated Fordham (179-120), but lost to the host Huskies (175-125).
Bucknell will be idle this coming weekend, but will open competition against Patriot League foes Nov. 3 when it travels to Easton, Pa., for a quad meet against American, Lafayette and Navy.
