Bucknell's Taryn Boucher Named Patriot League Defensive Player of Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - -- Bucknell women's soccer senior Taryn Boucher (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) had a terrific all-around game in Sunday's critical 1-0 road win over Lafayette, and she was rewarded with Brine Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. It is the first Patriot League honor of Boucher's career.
Boucher has started every game this season in a holding central midfield position, where she serves as both a first line of defense and an attacking player when the situation warrants. Against Lafayette, she keyed a defensive effort that limited the Leopards to only six total shots and only one shot on goal in 90 minutes. The shutout was Bucknell's eighth of the season, tying a program record set in 2008.
Bucknell really needed the three points against Lafayette to stay in good position for the fourth and final Patriot League Tournament berth, so with the game still scoreless inside 10 minutes to play, the Bison pressed numbers forward. With 7:06 left in regulation, fellow senior Jenna Tryon served a ball into the box, and Boucher charged to it and with a leaping volley sent the ball over the head of the goalkeeper and into the net for what proved to be the winning goal.
It was Boucher's second goal of the season and fourth of her career.
Bucknell is now 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League with one game remaining in the regular season. The Bison finish with first-place Navy (17-1-1) in Annapolis on Saturday at noon. A win or draw against Navy, or a Lehigh loss or tie against Holy Cross, would lock up that fourth playoff spot for the Bison.
