STORRS, Conn. - Mike Nicholson won the 200-yard butterfly and 200 individual medley, while Ben Seketa finished first in the 200 breast, second in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 IM to lead the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team in its first scored meet of the season Saturday. The Bison split the double dual with Connecticut and Fordham, defeating the Rams 179-120 and falling to the host Huskies 175-125.
Nicholson was the only double-winner for Bucknell, which last competed in a meet three weeks ago at UMBC. He won the 200 fly by 2.47 seconds and the 200 IM by 1.92. He also finished second in the 100 fly.
Bucknell had plenty of other runner-up finishes as the 200 medley relay and 400 free relays both finished second to Connecticut, while Cameron James (200 free) and Trevor Reitz (100 free) also earned silver medals.
Jon Jones was the top Bison diver off the one-meter board, placing third with a score of 220.20, just over six points shy of his career best.
"I was pleased with our overall performance at the meet," commented seventh-year Bison head coach Dan Schinnerer. "Our main emphasis at this point in the season is to see improvement from meet-to-meet and we saw a lot of progress today compared to where we were against UMBC a few weeks ago. That said, we have to make a significant improvement to get to where we ultimately want to be as a team."
Bucknell will take two weeks off before competing in a quad meet against Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Navy Nov. 3 in Easton, Pa.
Team Scores:
Connecticut 175, Bucknell 125
Bucknell 179, Fordham 120
