LEWISBURG, Pa. – For a second consecutive year, 14 Bucknell field hockey student-athletes were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday. Mallory Smith (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) was one of three league players with a 4.0 grade-point average during the fall semester. It was the third straight time the Bison senior made the honor roll with a perfect GPA.
Bucknell's 14 selections tied with American for first in the Patriot League. The Patriot League recognized a total of 65 student-athletes for their academic success throughout the fall term. Holy Cross and Lehigh each had 10 honorees, while Lafayette had nine and Colgate added eight to the list.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must achieve a 3.2 grade-point average in the fall semester.
Earlier this season, Smith, Marci Richard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) and Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) were also named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, which was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor additional student-athletes who have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and are a starter or a key reserve. Award winners are determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors who cannot vote for their own student-athletes.
Bucknell finished the 2011 season 8-12 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League. The Bison upset No. 1 American in the conference tournament to advance to the Patriot League Championship game last November.
