Bucknell Football's Tim Bolte Named to FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell football senior linebacker Tim Bolte (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) added yet another academic award to his stash on Tuesday when he was named to the 14th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team. Additionally, Bolte was one of 12 finalists selected from the 58-person team who have a chance at earning the 11th annual FCS ADA$,5,000 postgraduate scholarship.
The two winners of the $5,000 postgraduate scholarship will be announced at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention, held at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas, June 25-28, 2012. The other finalists are seniors Justin Aldredge, Northwestern State, TE, 3.90; Mitch Allen, Wofford, QB, 3.96; Ben Boothby, Northern Iowa, DT, 3.89; Yaser Elqutub, Northwestern State, LB, 3.85; Jordan Haynes, Yale, LB, 3.62; Kalan Jenkins, Georgia State, NG, 3.94; Marcus Lott, Coastal Carolina, S, 3.91; Mike McCabe, Holy Cross, OT, 3.62; Mike McElroy, Southern Illinois, S, 3.73; Matt Rae, Rhode Island, DT, 3.71; and Patrick Witt, Yale, QB, 3.91.
Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees was required to have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position. A total of 92 student-athletes were nominated.
Bolte was one of just four Patriot League players recognized as he was joined by Mike McCabe (Holy Cross), Brandon Ellis (Lafayette) and Zach Barket (Lehigh).
The FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team award is the latest in a long line of academic awards for Bolte. Already this academic year Bolte has earned Capital One Academic All-America and All-District honors, been named the Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a Campbell Trophy semifinalist.
A three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and a two-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League Football Team, Bolte owns a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in East Asian Studies (Chinese) and political science. He is a six-time member of the Bucknell Dean's List and earned a 4.0 GPA three straight semesters entering his senior year.
Bolte has spent time as a tutor at Cristo Ray Jesuit High School in Baltimore, serves on the executive board of Phi Gamma Delta and is a member of Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society and Phi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. In addition to a full academic schedule, Bolte is currently co-writing a future publication through the Bucknell Institute of Public Policy titled "Islam and Democracy: Testing the Micro-Level Foundations".
Bolte, who plans on attending law school, completed an internship at BDP International in Shanghai, China. While there, he held American culture and English proficiency classes after work for those in the company who wanted to improve their English and learn more about the United States.
A two-year starter at linebacker who earned the Bucknell Football Leadership Award and the Bobby Pangburn Memorial Award at the team's annual postseason awards banquet, Bolte ranked second on the Bison with a career-high 64 tackles this past season, boosting his career total to 142. He started the final 22 games of his career and finished his senior season with nine tackles for loss, two sacks, five passes defended, one interception, two forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries.
Bolte moved into a starting role for the first time as a junior and finished second on the team with a then-career high 57 tackles.
