ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Trevor Reitz and Eric Sokolosky each won an event to lead the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team Saturday afternoon at the unscored Navy Invitational in Lejeune Hall. The Bison competed in the meet with the host Mids, American, Lafayette and Shippensburg.
Navy used its large roster to its advantage as it captured 14 of the 17 events in the meet. Reitz (200 fly), Sokolosky (200 free) and American's Ming Ong (200 IM) were the only non-Mids to win events.
Bucknell used the meet as a final tuneup for next month's Patriot League Championships as a number of student-athletes swam in events that are not on their regular slate. The Bison did not enter relay teams in the 200 free relay or the 200 medley relay, nor did anyone swim in the 1,650 free.
The 200 free that Sokolosky won was perhaps Bucknell's deepest event as Bison took home six of the top nine spots. Christian Treat, Thomas Brown, Daniel Wallce, Ben Seketa and Reitz finished fifth through ninth with three Navy swimmers separating Sokolosky and Treat. Sokolosky was also Bucknell's top finisher in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:59.64 in his first time swimming the event this year.
Reitz' time of 1:57.42 helped him win the 200 fly. It was a season-best mark for Reitz, who was one of two Bison to finish in the top five as he was joined by fifth-place Colin Greene.
Two Bucknell swimmers also registered runner-up showings as Taylor Harris led three Bison in the top five of the 100 breast with a career-best 58.88 en route to a silver, while Evan Palumbo was one of three Bucknell swimmers to finish in the top six of the 200 breast. Harris placed fourth in the 200 breast, two spots behind Palumbo.
David Magaro had a solid day on the boards for the Bison with a third-place showing off the one-meter and a fifth-place finish off the three-meter.
Bucknell will now be idle until next month's Patriot League Championships which will be held at Navy. The three-day event begins Thursday, Feb. 16.
