LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior center Mike Muscala (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) earned his second Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week award of the season on Monday, recognizing his pair of double-doubles in Bucknell's victories over Lehigh and Holy Cross last week. Thanks in large part to Muscala's terrific recent play, the Bison have won seven straight games and sit atop the Patriot League standings with a perfect 5-0 record.
Bucknell traveled to Lehigh last Wednesday for a showdown between the top two picks in the Patriot League preseason poll. The Bison came away with a hard-fought 68-61 victory, and it was Muscala leading the way with 20 points and 12 rebounds. He scored 14 of those points in the decisive second half, including a couple of key 3-pointers that helped stretch out narrow leads.
On Saturday at Sojka Pavilion, Muscala was needed for only 23 minutes in Bucknell's 75-41 rout of Holy Cross, but he still managed 11 points and 11 rebounds, giving him his 10th double-double of the season. The program record for double-doubles in one season is 16, set by Boakai Lalugba in 2002-03.
On the season, Muscala is now averaging 15.6 points and a league-best 9.2 rebounds per game. In Patriot League play he is scoring 18.0 points per game while still grabbing 9.2 boards per game.
The Bison are 15-6 overall, and they will go for their 16th consecutive win against Patriot League opponents when American visits Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
