LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., Saturday to face Lehigh in their final dual meet of the season. Start time is 1 p.m. in Jacobs Pool. Both Bison squads have been idle since Sunday when they hosted Columbia (men) and Rutgers (women) in the final home meet of the campaign.
The Bucknell men enter Saturday afternoon's meet with a 6-2 overall record and they are 4-1 opposite Patriot League opponents. The Bison will be looking to reach seven wins in a season for the first time since 2008-09 and just the second time in the last 11 years.
Thanks to wins over Colgate and Army last week, Bucknell sixth-year head coach Dan Schinnerer moved into third place on the men's program's all-time wins list, jumping ahead of both Lynn Kachmarik (31 wins) and Jerry Foley (32). Schinnerer has compiled a 33-22 mark at the helm of the Bison.
Bucknell has won three of the last four meets against Lehigh, including a 170-122 victory last January. The Bison lead the all-time series that dates to 1960 by a 32-18 margin.
The Lehigh men enter their final home meet of the season with a sparkling 7-1 overall record, including 3-1 against Patriot League foes. The Mountain Hawks captured their first seven meets, but are coming off a 167.5-127.5 loss to Army last Friday. Bucknell defeated the Black Knights by 26 points last Saturday.
The Bison women are 4-4 this year and 3-2 in Patriot League competition. A win Saturday will help Bucknell post at least a .500 record for the fifth consecutive season.
On Saturday, the Bison will try to extend their winning streak over Lehigh to 12. Bucknell has defeated the Mountain Hawks every year since 2000-01 and is 25-8 all-time against Lehigh. The Bison captured last January's home dual by a 189-106 margin.
Lehigh has lost two straight meets by identical 171-129 scores as it enters its final dual meet with a 3-4 overall mark and a 2-2 Patriot League record. The Mountain Hawks lost to Army last Friday, while Bucknell posted a 101-point victory over the Black Knights on Saturday.
Both Bucknell teams still have one more regular-season meet this year, next Saturday's Navy Invitational. The Patriot League Championships will then take place three weeks later, Feb. 16-18, also at Navy.
