LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior lacrosse players Billy Eisenreich (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Charlie Streep(New Canaan, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee) were both selected in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, held on Friday in Philadelphia. Eisenreich was the 21st overall pick, taken in the third round by the Ohio Machine. Streep then went in the seventh round, 52nd overall, to the Long Island Lizards.
Eisenreich is coming off a big junior season for the Bison, and his emergence as a force in the midfield was a major reason why Bucknell was able to win a school-record 14 games and capture the Patriot League regular-season and tournament titles. A First Team All-Patriot League selection, Eisenreich set career highs in every scoring category with 19 goals, 15 assists and 34 points, despite missing four games with an injury.
Eisenreich's breakout game came in a big early-season overtime win over Navy, when he had seven points on two goals and five assists, including the helper on Todd Heritage'sovertime goal. Eisenreich went on to post nine goals and six assists over a four-game stretch, but then he was derailed by the injury for almost a month. He came back in stunning fashion, pouring in a career-high eight points with four goals and four assists in a come-from-behind 12-11 win over Lehigh. Eisenreich scored the final three goals of that contest to complete the rally.
Eisenreich tallied two goals and two assists in Bucknell's heartbreaking overtime loss to eventual national champion Virginia in the NCAA Tournament. He finished the year ranked sixth in the Patriot League in assists per game and 10th in points per game.
That Streep was taken in the MLL draft despite suffering a knee injury in the fall is a testament to his game. A starter from day one at Bucknell, Streep was an Honorable Mention All-American in 2011 after producing 37 points on 28 goals and nine assists. After earning Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors in 2009 and Second Team All-Patriot League accolades in 2010, last year he was a First Team All-PL pick for the first time.
Streep was named Patriot League Tournament MVP after recording hat tricks in wins over Lehigh and Colgate, and then he scored three more goals against Virginia in the NCAA Tournament. Streep has already topped the 100-point plateau in his career with 104 points on 76 goals and 28 assists. He is just 12 goals outside the Bucknell top-10.
The MLL season begins in late April and concludes with a championship game on Aug. 26. College seniors become eligible to play for their MLL teams at the conclusion of the NCAA season.
Bucknell begins its 2011 campaign at home against Delaware on Feb. 11. Bucknell is ranked 10th in the Inside Lacrosse preseason coaches' poll and 15th in the Faceoff Yearbook preseason rankings. The Bison return seven starters and 26 lettermen from last year's record-setting 14-3 team.
