LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman diver Katie Hetherington (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) earned her third Patriot League Female Diver of the Week plaudit this season on Monday. She competed in three dual meets last week and posted four victories and a runner-up showing in six competitions.
Hetherington, who already owns the Bucknell records off both the one-meter and three-meter boards, was especially strong against Patriot League opponents Colgate and Army. She swept both boards in both road meets. On Sunday against an unbeaten Rutgers squad she finished sixth in one-meter competition and second off the three-meter board.
Hetherington's best one-meter score last week came in her gold medal performance against Army when she registered a 255.06, her third-best mark this year. She did even better off the three-meter against the Black Knights with a 273.75, the second-best score in school history behind her own school record of 285.05 that was established at the Bucknell Invitational in November.
One of three freshman divers on the Bison, Hetherington has now competed 10 times off both boards and has six first-place finishes off each. She has swept both boards in a dual meet four times.
Bucknell and Hetherington will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 21, at Lehigh. It will be the final dual meet of the season for the Bison as the Patriot League Championships are just one month away.
