WEST POINT, N.Y. - Jennifer Brennan, Katie Hetherington, Emily Norton, Kelly Pontecorvo and Emily Wright were double-winners as the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team defeated Army by a 198-97 score Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool. The win lifted the Bison's overall record back above .500 at 4-3.
Bucknell captured first place in 10 individual swimming events, both diving competitions and the meet-opening 200 medley relay. Army's only victories came in the 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 free relay. The final two of those events featured the Bison swimming exhibition.
Bucknell swept the first three spots in four events: 1,000 free (Pontecorvo, Griest, Besman), 100 breast (Norton, Oxley, Gautieri), 100 free (Wright, Perry, Utkewicz) and 500 free (Pontecorvo, Griest, Besman).
Wright, who swam a season-best 24.35 seconds to win the 50 free, also captured the 100 free, defeating teammate Lauren Perry by .47 seconds.
Pontecorvo led the two 1-2-3 Bison finishes in the 500 free and 1,000 free for her two gold medals, while Brennan swept the two backstroke events. Norton swept the breaststroke races for her two victories.
Hethrington posted her third-best score of the season (255.06) off the one-meter board, while her three-meter score of 273.75 was her second-best at that height.
Other winners for the Bison on Saturday were Perry in the 200 free and Kaitlyn Sweeney in the 200 fly.
Bucknell will close out a stretch of three meets in five days on Sunday when it hosts Rutgers at 1 p.m. inside Kinney Natatorium.
