LEWISBURG, Pa. - After wrestling at just one event in the last 24 days, the Bucknell wrestling team has a busy week ahead. The Bison will have a minimum of four dual matches in a four-day span thanks to a road matchup at Old Dominion on Wednesday and at least three matches at the Virginia Duals on Friday and Saturday.
Bucknell (2-6, 2-0 EIWA) was most recently in action at the Midlands Championships in late December and placed 21st of 43 teams at the competitive event. The Bison last wrestled a dual when they hosted the Bison Duals in mid-December and collected victories over EIWA opponents Princeton and Sacred Heart. Bucknell has only duals left on its schedule leading up to the postseason EIWA Championships the first weekend of March.
Wednesday's match at Old Dominion begins at 7:30 p.m. The Monarchs are 3-4 on the season, including an 18-14 loss to Princeton, a squad the Bison beat by a 27-9 margin. Old Dominion has one ranked wrestler in its lineup, Te Edwards, who is listed No. 17 at 174 pounds, according to Intermat. He has accumulated an 8-4 record this season.
This marks the fifth straight year Bucknell and Old Dominion have met. The all-time series is tied 3-3 thanks to the Bison's 20-16 victory last January in Davis Gym.
Less than 40 hours after the conclusion of the Old Dominion match, Bucknell will commence competition at the Virginia Duals. The Bison will face Buffalo Friday at 11 a.m. in their first match in the 14-team, bracketed event. Bucknell will take on either Kent State or The Citadel in its second match Friday. Its result vs. Buffalo will determine if the second match is at 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. and if it is in the championship or consolation bracket.
The Virginia Duals championship match is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Saturday. No. 9 Edinboro, No. 17 Missouri and No. 23 Kent State give the field three ranked squads.
Buffalo brings a 2-9 overall record into Friday morning's first Virginia Duals match. The Bulls have claimed two of their last five matches after opening the season 0-6.
Bucknell and Buffalo have not met since 2001-02. The Bulls lead the all-time series 8-3 and have won seven in a row.
Sophomore Stephen McPeek and freshman Austin Miller enter this week leading the Bison in wins with 11 this year. They are two of six projected starters with above-.500 records, joining John Regan (8-7), Alex Pellicciotti (8-6), Corey Lear (6-2) and Joe McMullan (5-2).
Bucknell, which is in the midst of a lengthy road trip, will next be in action Saturday, Jan. 21, at Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks are ranked 14th in the latest Intermat national poll.
