LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell swimming and diving teams have not had an official competition for more than a month, but that will soon change as both squads will compete three times in an upcoming five-day span. The Bison will face back-to-back Patriot League opponents on the road when they swim at Colgate on Wednesday and Army on Saturday. The Bucknell men will welcome Columbia to Kinney Natatorium on Sunday, while the women will host Rutgers that same day.
Wednesday's rare weekday afternoon meet at Colgate will kick off the busy stretch for the Bison. Start time for the meet is 3 p.m., while both weekend meets will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday's home meet will be the last home competition for the Bison in 2011-12.
Bucknell's men are 4-1 overall this season, including 2-1 against Patriot League competition. They defeated La Salle by a 171-127 score last time out the first weekend of December. The Bison women are 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league meets. They lost to La Salle by a 164-136 margin in their last meet before final exams started.
Colgate's men are 1-2 this season. They finished sixth at November's Bison Invitational, an event which Bucknell won by a comfortable spread. The Raiders women's team is 2-2 this year, but has won three of the last four Patriot League titles.
Army's men enter the weekend with a 5-2 record after winning their first five decisions this season. The women are 2-6 this year and are in the midst of a six-meet losing streak. Both Army squads will swim against Lehigh Friday evening at Crandall Pool.
The Rutgers women will bring an unblemished 6-0 mark into Sunday's meet at Kinney Natatorium. The Scarlet Knights are also 4-0 against Big East competition.
The Columbia men stand at 2-2 on the season and 1-2 against Ivy League foes as they will face Bucknell for an eighth consecutive year.
The Bison will wrap up the dual portion of their schedule Jan. 21 with a meet at Lehigh. Both Bucknell squads will take on the Mountain Hawks starting at 1 p.m.
