Bucknell's Josh Eden Named Patriot League Football Special Teams Player of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell football senior DE Josh Eden (State College, Pa./State College Area) tied an NCAA Football Championship Series record by blocking his seventh career extra point in Saturday's 27-26 win over Duquesne, earning him Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday. It is the second career award for Eden, who was also cited after blocking three extra points against Colgate last November.
Eden's seven career extra point blocks tie him atop the NCAA FCS list with Montana's Tim Hauck, who registered his seven blocks from 1987-89. Eden now has nine career blocked kicks, combining extra points and field goals.
Not only a special teams player, Eden is a dominant starting defensive lineman for the Bison. He registered seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack in Saturday's season-opening victory. Eden now has 30 career tackles for loss and 14 career sacks. He is just two sacks from moving into the top 10 in program history on that list.
A two-time First Team All-Patriot League selection, Eden was voted as team co-captain during the preseason. He has 151 tackles, 10 pass breakups and two forced fumbles in his career that began in 2006 but was interrupted for a Mormon mission in 2008 and 2009.
Eden and his Bison teammates will continue their season-opening homestand Saturday, Sept. 10, when they host Marist at 6 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Bucknell will be looking for its first 2-0 start to a season since 2008.
