Bucknell Swimming and Diving Teams Open 2011-12 Season Saturday at Home vs. UMBC

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams will get their 2011-12 campaigns underway on Saturday when they host UMBC at 1 p.m. at Kinney Natatorium. It is the first of four home meets for the Bison, who will also host George Washington (Oct. 22), the Bucknell Invitational (Nov. 18-20) and Columbia (Jan. 15) later this season.
Saturday's meet will be a non-scored meet. It is the fifth consecutive season Bucknell has kicked off its campaign with this meet against the Retrievers.
Bucknell's men's team was picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, the same spot they finished at last year's Patriot League Championships. The Bison had seven All-Patriot League selections a year ago (Thomas Brown, Nathaniel Frye, Billy Krause, Mike Nicholson, Matthew Segar, Eric Sokolosky, and Christian Treat) and all seven return to the team in 2011-12. Bucknell posted a 6-5 overall record last year and was 4-2 against Patriot League opponents.
The Bison women, who also finished third at last year's Patriot League Championships, were picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. Bucknell has finished in the top three at the Patriot League Championships 11 straight years. The Bison were 7-4 overall and 4-2 in Patriot League dual meets in 2011-12.
Following Saturday's meet, Bucknell will be idle until Oct. 22 when it hosts George Washington
