Bucknell Field Hockey Falls 6-0 to Rider

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey played a close first half, but Rider proved to be too strong as the Broncs came away with a 6-0 win at Graham Field on Saturday afternoon. Rider's Megan Pisani netted four goals to lead her team. The Bison (2-5) will look for their first home victory when their homestand continues tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Rutgers.
Rider (6-1) earned its first win over Bucknell since 1987. Pisani recorded her first goal of the day just four minutes into play, cashing in on a rebound. The senior then made it 2-0 at the half after deflecting a ball in a crowded circle.
Rider's lead grew in the second half as it seemed to be a step in front of Bucknell throughout much of play. Marlaine Schneider gave her team the three-goal lead after collecting a wide shot and dumping it in past Bison keeper Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) from beside the net. Pisani then continued her offensive effort by scoring the next two goals and putting the Broncs in front 5-0.
The fifth goal put Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth Secondary) in goal for Bucknell. The senior keeper made a save almost immediately and for the remaining 15 minutes of play, allowed only one more score coming on a penalty stroke to Virginia Egusquiza.
Perrine (2-3) took the loss for the Bison after making a career-best seven saves and allowing five goals in 53:42. Zargarpour made one save and allowed one goal in 16:18. Earning the win for the Broncs was Rebecca Lotito (6-1), the reigning national leader in goals-against average. The senior made three saves in the shutout.
Bucknell had a late chance to avoid the shutout as it earned a penalty corner as time expired. The Bison got off three shots, but each one was blocked by a Bronc defender and never made it on goal.
Bucknell drew three penalty corners on the day compared to seven for Rider. The Broncs' total was off their average for the season, as they entered Saturday's contest earning better than 13 corners per game.
The Bison's five-game homestand continues tomorrow with Rutgers, giving them their final tune-up before the start of Patriot League action with Holy Cross on Oct. 1.
