LEWISBURG, Pa. - Days after being named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, Bucknell field hockey's Amie Pritchard (Rumson, N.J./Kent School (Conn.)) was added ECAC Defensive Player of the Week to the list on Wednesday. The Bison freshman recorded her first career defensive save to help send Bucknell to a 2-1 overtime win over Central Michigan last Saturday.
Pritchard and the Bucknell defense held Central Michigan to just four shots on goal in the contest. The midfielder's big contribution came late in regulation, however, as she earned a defensive save with the score tied at 1-1. The Bison then came from behind to earn their first win of the season.
Pritchard has started all five games at midfield this fall. Both the Patriot League and ECAC awards are the first of her career. Pritchard is the fourth Bison since 2006 to earn a weekly award from the ECAC, joining Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth Secondary), who was named the Defensive Player of the Week twice last season. Emily Groendyke was a two-time Goalkeeper of the Week, and Callista Costopoulos was named Player of the Week in 2006.
Bucknell will return to the field on Sunday when it makes the short trip to Lock Haven for a 1 p.m. game.
