PHILADELPHIA -Bucknell field hockey suffered a fate similar to yesterday's season opener, falling 5-0 to Boston University in the Conference Cup at Geasey Field on Saturday morning. The Terriers showed a strong offensive attack, firing off 20 shots, compared to four for the Bison, which saw its record drop to 0-2 on the young season.
All five of Boston's goals came in the first half, with the first score coming on a penalty stroke for Jacinda McLeod 5:17 into the contest. Before the break, Macey Gaumond netted back-to-back goals to give the Terriers (1-1) a 3-0 lead.
That advantage continued to grow late in the first period. Tabi Hatch recorded her own set of back-to-back goals, both unassisted as the game approached halftime. By the time the teams headed to their locker rooms at the break, Boston had 14 shots on goal on 15 attempts.
Bison goalkeeper Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) entered the game at the start of the second half and held the Terriers scoreless for the remainder of the contest. The sophomore made five saves in 35 minutes.
Bucknell will face another tough test in its next match when it hosts No. 7 Princeton at 6 p.m. on Sept. 2 at Graham Field. The home opener will be broadcast live on Bison Vision.
