LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell volleyball will have to wait a bit longer for its 2011 opener thanks to the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Irene. The William & Mary Tribe Invitational has been canceled due to the weather forecast. Bison field hockey has made a schedule adjustment as well due to impending weather. They will now face Boston University at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Philadelphia.
Bucknell volleyball was originally scheduled to play William & Mary, Delaware State and Stetson this weekend in Williamsburg, Va. The campus of the College of William & Mary has evacuated for Saturday and Sunday. The Bison will now begin their campaign Sept. 2-3 when they host the Bucknell Tournament with Fordham, Manhattan and Dartmouth at Davis Gym.
Bucknell field hockey's season opener against Temple at the Conference Cup remains unchanged, and the Bison are set to take the field against the Owls at noon today. The Orange and Blue were then scheduled to play Boston Sunday afternoon, but that contest has been moved up one day in hopes of avoiding the worst of the weather.
Bucknell volleyball, which was voted fourth in the 2011 Patriot League Preseason Poll on Tuesday, will host two tournaments this fall. After their now season-opening tournament, they will welcome Coppin State, Stony Brook and Bowling Green to Lewisburg Sept. 16-17 for the Bucknell Invitational. The match with Coppin State will be broadcast live on Bison Vision. The field hockey squad's first home game will also be on Bison Vision as they host No. 7 Princeton at Graham Field at 6 p.m. on Sept. 2.
